Analysis: Controlled drinking approach comparably effective to abstinence
Abstract
Philosophical arguments abound over whether controlled drinking (CD) approaches to treating alcohol use disorder (AUD) work, and which individuals they might work best for, but in many cases these discussions have not been grounded in concrete data. Researchers last November published a meta-analysis that seeks to fill the knowledge gap, with their results suggesting that CD could be as effective as an abstinence-based model for many patients.
