Demographic and travel characteristics and self-reported predeparture SARS-CoV-2 testing behavior in air passengers entering the United States from foreign destinations from July to September 2021

  • First Published: 20 December 2023
Description unavailable

Using data collected during a pilot surveillance program, this manuscript describes predeparture testing behavior among a convenience sample of international air passengers entering the United States from July to September 2021 at six US ports of entry. We analyzed pairwise relationships between self-reported test type, test timing, demographic and travel characteristics, and COVID-19 vaccination status. We found that test type was significantly associated with departure region, likely reflecting the regional disparities in the availability of tests at the time of the activity.

Extended autoantibody panel in Turkish patients with early-stage systemic sclerosis: Coexpressions and their influences on clinical phenotypes

  • First Published: 13 December 2023
Description unavailable

The coexpression of autoantibodies is not uncommon in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients. Although SSc-specific autoantibodies generally show known clinical features, the clinical presentation of the coexpression in specific and nonspecific autoantibody positivity continues to be necessary.

Molecular epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in Mongolia, first experience with nanopore sequencing in lower- and middle-income countries setting

  • First Published: 13 December 2023
Description unavailable

We are sharing our initial experience with whole genome sequencing of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) from Mongolia, where sequencing data is sparse. We used retrospective analysis of stored biological samples from November 2020 to October 2021 and a variant-specific real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test to detect SARS-CoV-2 variants in 4879 samples, followed by whole genome sequencing by Nanopore technology in 799 samples. Among the samples, the 20B (B.1.1.46) variant predominated in the earlier local transmission period. We found slower introduction and circulation of alpha and delta variants in our country compared to global dynamics in 2020 and 2021.

Hyperglycemia disrupted the integrity of the blood-brain barrier following diffuse axonal injury through the sEH/NF-κB pathway

  • First Published: 06 December 2023
Description unavailable

Hyperglycemia could exacerbate axonal injury, worsen the loss of blood-brain barrier integrity, increase the release of inflammatory factors, and upregulate the expression of soluble epoxide hydrolase and nuclear transcription factor kappa B.

Cluster analysis of flowcytometric immunophenotyping with extended T cell subsets in suspected immunodeficiency

  • First Published: 06 December 2023
Description unavailable

Patients with immunodeficiencies, including primary immunodeficiencies, commonly experience diagnostic delays resulting in morbidity. There is an unmet need to identify such patients earlier and assign a correct diagnosis and personalized prognosis. Our results support the use of detailed lymphocyte flowcytometry, including extended T cell subpopulations, in the routine work-up for suspected immunodeficiency to achieve these goals.

Prognostic value of insulin resistance in patients with female reproductive system malignancies: A multicenter cohort study

  • First Published: 06 December 2023
Description unavailable

This study evaluates the prognostic value of insulin resistance (IR) in female reproductive system malignancies using four surrogate markers of IR. This prognostic value is especially significant in perimenopausal women. The prognostic value of the combination of IR and inflammation status was also determined.

PRMT5 participates in B cell overactivation in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) through RSAD2-mediated NF-κB signaling

  • First Published: 13 December 2023
Description unavailable

Low-expression of protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) through inactivation of RSAD2/NF-κB signaling pathway alleviates the hyperactivity of primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) B cells, which may provide theoretical basis and potential therapeutic targets for clinical treatment of pSS.

Associations between TNFSF13B polymorphisms and primary Sjögren's syndrome susceptibility in primary Sjögren's syndrome patients: A meta-analysis

  • First Published: 06 December 2023
Description unavailable

Polymorphisms in the BAFF (TNFSF13B) gene were related to vulnerability to pSS among pSS patients and HCs alike. The SNP rs12583006 was significantly related to pSS susceptibility in pSS patients.

Upregulation of IFNE in cervical biopsies of patients with high-risk human papillomavirus infections

  • First Published: 06 December 2023
Description unavailable

The role of interferon epsilon (IFN-ε) in human sexually transmitted infections, particularly human papillomavirus (HPV), remains poorly understood. This study examined the expression of IFN-ε in cervical tissues of women with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection. The results showed increased mRNA expression of IFN-ε in HR-HPV-positive women compared to HR-HPV-negative women.

Increased gene expression of CCR6 and RORγt in peripheral blood cells of rheumatoid arthritis patients and their correlation with anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide and disease activity

  • First Published: 06 December 2023
Description unavailable

The gene expression of CCR6 and RORγt increased remarkably in new case RA patients compared to healthy controls. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between RORγt gene expression and parameters, including gene expression of CCR6, plasma levels of CCL20, ESR, DAS-28, anti-CCP, and RF. Also, CCR6 gene expression was positively associated with the DAS-28, plasma levels of anti-CCP, and ESR. Increased gene expression of CCR6 and RORγt in peripheral blood leukocytes of new case RA patients may contribute to the exacerbation and pathogenesis of RA

High-mobility group box 1 emerges as a therapeutic target for asthma

  • First Published: 22 December 2023
Description unavailable

High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is a highly conserved non-histone nuclear protein found in the calf thymus and participates in a variety of intracellular processes such as DNA transcription, replication, and repair. HMGB1 emerges as a therapeutic target for asthma.

Serum C-reactive protein greater than 75 mg/dL as an early available laboratory predictor of severe COVID-19: A systematic review

  • First Published: 28 December 2023
Description unavailable

Having a laboratory factor to predict the severity of every COVID-19 patient can be very useful in how to approach each patient. By reviewing 11 articles and 1615 patients, baseline serum CRP of 75 mg/dL in hospitalized patients was suggested as an early predictor for developing severe conditions.

Lnc-ANRIL modulates the immune response associated with NF-κB pathway in LPS-stimulated bovine mammary epithelial cells

  • First Published: 22 December 2023
Description unavailable

Silencing of Inc-antisense noncoding RNA in the INK4 locus (ANRIL) expression could inhibit inflammatory response by regulating nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway. Lnc-ANRlL exerted vital erects during very first stages of innate immune response in mammary epithelial cells. Our findings proposed new therapeutic strategies for the treatment or innate immune response-related diseases such as bovine mastitis.

Mechanism of Rhodiola roseaEuonymus alatus drug pair against rheumatoid arthritis: Network pharmacology and experimental validation

  • First Published: 26 December 2023
Description unavailable

In this study, we adopted a comprehensive approach to uncover the potential components and mechanisms of Rhodiola roseaEuonymus alatus drug pair (TY) that ameliorate rheumatoid arthritis (RA) via network pharmacology integrated molecular docking strategy. We also confirmed our findings by in vivo and in vitro experiments, which TY can improve the symptoms of arthritis in rats, alleviate the inflammatory response and angiogenesis, and inhibit the proliferation of ibroblast-like synovial cells in human RA cells. The underlying mechanism may be related to inhibiting the phosphatidylinositide 3-kinases/protein kinase B signaling pathway and regulating the balance between matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of MMPs.
